I gave it only four stars because I was disappointed that none of the plates are in on the by: Kunstformen der Natur, or Art Forms in Nature, encapsulates biologist Ernst Haeckel's response to Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species.

Haeckel (German, ) published these exquisitely rendered depictions of flora and fauna in ten installments of ten illustrations from toaiming to widen the general public's understanding of naturalism/5(21).

This mars an otherwise excellent book. For those interested in land art (of a kind) and outdoor art of various types, this is a delicious book. As you can see from my pics, "art" in this book takes a variety of forms: some is very different from the landscape itself, while some of it is quite integrated/5(4).
